To ensure that everybody is healthy, the kit should come with a thirty day supply of personal prescription meds for all family members. Other important outdoor survival supplies are antibiotic cream, epinephrine and antihistamines in case of allergic reactions to insect stings, rubbing alcohol, suture kit, disposable surgical staplers, oxytetracycline tablets in case of infection or diarrhea, aspirin, and extra pairs of prescription eyeglasses/contacts for all family members. The kit should include such emergency preparedness supplies as low sodium salt to prevent dehydration in case of diarrhea, mineral and multi-vitamin supplements
Your emergency preparedness kit should include food and water. Go for purified water (or mineral water), high-calorie protein bars, and canned food. You should also consider such outdoor survival equipment as rainwater collection equipment and seawater desalination kits. Signaling and navigation equipment are very important in a survival kit. Your kit should include a whistle, a signal mirror, high-power LED light, flares, laser pointers with lithium batteries, surveyor's tape to mark your location, a pencil/pen and paper, a compass, distress beacons (EPIRBs), GPS, NOAA weather alert radios, two-way radios, a trail chart/map, and a survival manual.
You should also consider including such supplies as gill nets in case you need to do emergency fishing to survive, Swiss Army knife, can opener, flashlights, sturdy cord, and a solar charger in your emergency preparedness kit.
One of the most important outdoor survival supplies when buying or creating an outdoor emergency survival kit is sunscreen. Exposure to direct sunlight between 10 O’clock in the morning and 4 O’clock in the evening not only leads to sunburns, but it also increases the risk of skin cancer. The sunscreen should come with SPF of over 30. You should also include UV protective sunglasses.
